Is it wrong to expect your website to function properly on a mobile device such as your phone or tablet?

We are all aware of the importance of our digital brand and the need to build mobile websites that can be consumed easily on devices such as Android mobile phones and Apple devices such as iPhones and iPads.

Well, when I say ALL, I clearly don’t include the digital agencies out there who persist in building sites that simply don’t function on a mobile device. Shame on you!

I am sick of hearing about responsive design allowing for mobile websites to automatically resize to fit the device it is being consumed on. Why? Well quite simply I can’t believe there is an alternative in this day and age. Do we really need a name for the method we use to build a website when in reality it should be taken for granted that it will work everywhere you would expect and need?

Of course, many digital agencies will tell you that you need to build a mobile specific website and quote anything upwards of £10k. Of course they do – that’s £10k more income for basically putting right what they should have done right in the first place.

Our head of digital, Martin  summed it up to me the other day when he said “We must never deliver mobile websites that fail to meet and, indeed exceed, the expectations of the client. It is after all why they come to us – the experts and not simply the supplier.”

I think this sums up the attitude of everyone at The fabl and one that I have always believed is the most important aspect of the business.

So if you are unhappy with the experience your clients get when they view your online presence on a mobile phone or a tablet, give Martin a call and he can explain what you should really expect and what you genuinely deserve for the money you invest. Mobile websites need to be responsive – not just an afterthought.
